Many critters have passed through my life, and currently we have more than our share of cats and dogs, all living in healthy the end.
Glad to learn of your wonderful efforts on behalf of the felines. They have changed my life for the far better, and like Sam Clemens I will always feel naked without several cats around while enjoying a good cigar. They are angels.
Here are a few of my favorite thoughts on cats.
But, before leaving you with these clever words, I wish to mention that my comprehensive list of animal rescues and resources in TN and the surrounding area is nearly complete. I'll gladly send you a copy as a resource itself. I have worked on this document out of necessity, so I hope others find it as useful.
So, feast on these words. I find them tasty.
"Time spent with cats is never wasted." - Sigmund Freud
"One of the ways in which cats show happiness is by sleeping." - Cleveland Amory
"Cats are designated friends." - Norman Corwin
"If man could be crossed with the cat, it would improve the man but deteriorate the cat." - Twain
"How we behave towards cats here below determines our status in heaven." - Robert Heinlein
"If cats could talk, they wouldn't." - Nan Porter
"Cats are smarter than dogs. You cannot get eight cats to pull a sled through snow." - Jeff Valdez
"Thousands of years ago cats were worshiped as gods. Cats have never forgotten this." - anonymous
"The smallest feline is a masterpiece." - Leonardo da Vinci
"What greater love than that of my cat?" - Charles Dickens
"When a man loves cats, I am his friend and comrade, without further introduction." Mark Twain

Few people in history loved cats as much as Mark Twain. And if he were alive today, he'd probably be delighted to discover that June is "Adopt-a-Cat Month." While a boy growing up in Hannibal, MO, and known by his given name, Samuel Clemens, he watched his mother adopt cats in June...July...August, as well as the remaining 9 months of the year. While the Clemens family were of modest means, they were rich in cats. Any neglected, homeless, hungry feline would find food and shelter with Jane Clemens. "Some people scorn a cat and think it not an essential; but the Clemens tribe are not of these," Sam would write later.

The cat you rescue may rescue you.

p.s. If you give an email address I'll send you my cat essays. They are but heartfelt tributes to all the souls that brought me love and lessons. Perhaps you'll find something there of value.

2012 -- Autumn is almost here, and it's time to switch out our 'summer' decor in the Manor to the warmer, fuzzier goods. :) Kitties are loving the cooler weather to lounge on the fenced in porch.
